I have used 'PC Suite for Sony Ericsson' previously, as installed (successfully) from the CD that came with my P990

However, a couple of days ago, I discovered that there was a newer version (v1.6) available for download and so downloaded that and 'installed' it.
However, it seemed to 'uninstall' the version I had, leaving me with nothing.
Actually, I believe I had updated it from 1.0(?) to v 1.5.26 from a download from the Sony Ericsson website some time in the past couple of years, and that the upgrade to v1.5.26 went without a hitch. However, that link now redirects to the Sony Mobilehome page ...
However, after 'upgrading' to v1.6.0, I was left with no application at all. I tried navigating to (both):
- C:Program FilesSony Ericsson
- C:Program Files (x86)Sony Ericsson
(yes, both paths existed) ... but could not find any executable that would help.
Then, I decided to uninstall 'PC Suite for Sony Ericsson' ... and start over with the original install CD that came with my P990i (yes, an old version, but at least it worked, before). When I ran the install, I saw the following messages:
- Extracting:
- Sony Ericsson PC Suite for Smartphones.msi
- Preparing to install...
- 'The operating system is not adequate for running Sony Ericsson PC Suite for Smartphones.' [OK]
After clicking [OK] it returns to the Install Wizard:
- Sony Ericsson PC Suite for Smartphones
- 'InstallShield Wizard Completed'
- 'The wizard was interrupted before PC Suite for Sony Ericsson could be completely installed.'
- 'Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.
- 'Click Finish to exit the wizard.'
- [Finish] (only option NOT dimmed, [<Back] and [Cancel] are dimmed)
So, I am left with three different installation files that I have downloaded (two versions previously, and one, v1.6, just now):
So, this leaves me with three install files (not including the orginal install CD that I still have):
- PC Suite for Sony Ericsson.msi (58Mb, unknown version)
- PC Suite for Sony Ericsson.exe (69Mb, v1.5.26)
- PC Suite for Sony Ericsson.exe (64Mb, v1.6)
Launching *.msi files
If I run the *.msi file, it stalls part way through the install with the error message:
- 'The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
- Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder constaing the installation package 'vcredist.msi' in the box below.
- Use source:
- C:UsersUserNameAppDataLocalTempIXP000.TMP [Browse] '
The folder IXP000.TMP does not exist now, even if it did before.
I did manage to find some versions of the file 'vcredist.msi' on the Internet, and (after scanning for viruses, etc.) placed these in temporary folders and used [Browse] to select them ... for a brief while, the dialog box displays:
- Accessing the feature
... but it did not help, I end-up back at the previous screen.
Clicking [OK] causes the error message to refresh (endlessly recursively).
After (finally) clicking [Cancel], see the error message:
- PC Suite for Sony Ericsson Installer Information
- 'Error 1706.An installation package for the product Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable - KB2467175 cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'vcredist.msi'.
- [OK] '
After clicking [OK] it returns to the Install Wizard:
- 'InstallShield Wizard Completed'
- 'The wizard was interrupted before PC Suite for Sony Ericsson could be completely installed.'
- 'Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.
- 'Click Finish to exit the wizard.'
- [Finish] (only option NOT dimmed)
Clicking on [Finish] closes the wizard ... so I am no further ahead.
Launching *.exe files
If I run either of the *.exe files, I see a warning pop-up:
- PC Suite for Sony Ericsson
- ! FAILED TO LOAD RESOURCE
- [OK]
If I click on that, then the 'install' continues as it did for the *.msi install...
However, after exiting from the wizard, a new dialog box pops-up:
- PC Suite for Sony Ericsson
- ? FAILED TO LOAD RESOURCE
- [Yes] [No]
If I click [Yes], the computer reboots (!?!), if I click [No], it exits
Searching for 'vcredist.msi'
I did check KB2467175 ... however, the download from that knowledge base page is no longer available, and it references:
- 'MS11-025: Description of the security update for Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package: April 12, 2011'
Yes, I DO know that this page has been superseeded by:
- 'MS11-025: Description of the security update for Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package: June 14, 2011'
However, the 2011 update does not include the 'vcredist.msi' file ...
I then found this:
Where I can download '
Sony Ericsson W380i
vcredist_x64.exe' ... no idea if this can help me, but it gave me the clue that, perhaps, in one of the various Windows updates, 'vcredist.msiSony Ericsson W380i Pc Suite Download
' may have been replaced with 'Sony Ericsson W380i Pc Suite Free Download
vcredist_x64.msi' (?!?) ... or something like that. In that case, then the installation programs would be looking for a no longer existing file.Sony Ericsson W380i Pc Suite Free
Incidentally, I found this other report:
Sony Ericsson W380i Camera
There is only one response, seems to be generic advice. At about this point, I give-up ... can anyone else help?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide some constructive input and assistance to this SPECIFIC issue.
